The Libyan Football Association (LFA) has lodged an appeal over
Rwanda's use of striker Dady Birori in the second round of the 2015
Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier.

The Congolese born striker who has featured for three clubs in Rwanda
before switching to AS Vita of DR Congo netted three goals to sink
Libya last month in the qualifier.

The Libyan FA has now responded by sending an appeal to the
Confederation of African Football (CAF) requesting that the Amavubi
are disqualified.

Rwanda had managed to hold the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) Cup
holders to a draw in a game played in Tunisia, before shocking them in
Kigali with Birori's hat-trick.

Olivier Mulindahabi, the Secretary General of the Rwanda Football
Federation (Ferwafa) however confirmed that the Libya FA had lodged an
appeal. He said the Libyans think Birori is not a Rwandan.

"We shall respond explaining Birori's status because we think this
appeal is baseless," said Mulindahabi.

He explained that they will send a copy of the players' national
identity card as well as his Rwandan passport proving that Birori is
Rwandan by nationality.

Birori who now features for DR Congo's AS Vita in 2009 however
featured for Atraco FC (Rwanda) in the CAF Champions League on a
Congolese passport in 2009.

Besides Atraco FC, Birori also played for Mukura and SC Kiyovu in
Rwanda. He made his international debut for Rwanda in 2009 and has
appeared in Fifa World Cup qualifying matches, scoring six goals in 20
international appearances.

In the past Rwanda has given players from other countries nationality
to feature for them. Some of these include; Said Abed (DR Congo) and
Manfred Kizito who is half Uganda/Tanzanian.

After seeing off Libya last month, Rwanda is now waiting to face Congo
Brazzaville for a Group A slot. In-case they win, the Amavubi will
play alongside the African Champions Nigeria, South Africa and Sudan
in the Group stage.
