Spat between SA and Rwanda thickens

Africa Sunday 9 March 2014 - 12:40pm

Johannesburg - We are following the diplomatic spat between Rwanda and
South Africa. The two countries have expelled each other's diplomats.
The move will likely have far-reaching political and economic
consequences. eNCA

JOHANNESBURG - After having expelled each other's diplomats, the spat
between South Africa and Rwanda is far from over.

The next move like South Africa's done, I think that for us actually,
the Rwandan embassy be closed down officially because it's not here
for diplomatic mission...

The diplomatic trouble had begun and still centres around two men,
former Rwandan army Chief General Faustin Nyamwasa and ex-Rwandan spy
Chief Patrick Karegeya.

Both fled to South African after having a disagreement with Rwandan
President Paul Kagame.

The country thereafter accused the both men of trying to overthrow Kagame.

South Africa got involved in the complicated situation when Rwanda
asked Pretoria to hand over Nyamwasa.

After the request was denied, Nyamwasa was attacked outside his
Johannesburg home in 2010, and was again attacked this week.

Nyamwasa's family says it is the Rwandan government behind the attacks.

"The next move like South Africa's done, I think that for us actually,
the Rwandan embassy be closed down officially because it's not here
for diplomatic mission. It's here to co-ordinate those criminal
activities. It has done it with Karegeya, it has done it with
Nyamwasa. As I sit here I was stabbed ten times by the agency of
Rwanda," Nyamwasa's brother-in-law, Frank Ntwali said.

And the family are not the only ones who have their suspicions;
Pretoria accuses Rwandan diplomats of possible involvement in the
attempted assassination attempt of the former top Rwandan official and
issued diplomatic expulsions to three Rwandan officials.

Kigali responded by kicking out six South African diplomats and
accusing Pretoria of harbouring dissidents.

Si le petit Rwanda se fait taper dessus par le géant Sudafricain, ça
va faire très mal. Que les va-t-en-guerre de Kigali assument les
conséquences!
