SA to review ties with Rwanda - report

Cape Town - South Africa is considering breaking diplomatic relations
with Rwanda after the two countries went on a tit-for-tat expulsion
drive of diplomats over the past few days.

According to the Sunday Times, a senior diplomatic source said that
South Africa was considering recalling its ambassador to Kigali and
shutting down the Rwandan Embassy in Pretoria.

This comes after assassination attempts against exiled former Rwandan
army chief Faustin Kayumba Nyamwasa, who has been living in
Johannesburg.

According to the diplomatic source, security agencies tracked down and
expelled the alleged hitmen, who they claim were masquerading as
diplomats. Rwanda retaliated by ejecting six South African diplomats.

This comes after the death of Nyamwasa's close friend and former
Rwandan spy chief Patrick Karegeya. He was assassinated on New Year's
Day in a Sandton hotel.
