Rwandan and South African diplomatic dispute likely to escalate,
raising contract and security risks

EVENT
Rwandan foreign minister Louise Mushikiwabo confirmed on 7 March that
six South African diplomats had been expelled from Rwanda after it was
claimed that South Africa was harbouring dissidents that were
suspected of staging terrorist attacks within Rwanda.

South Africa's Department of International Relations and Co-operation
has not yet commented, but the country had previously expelled one
Burundian and three Rwandan diplomats, although no official
allegations had been made. The expulsions followed an attack by gunmen
on 3 March on the Johannesburg home of former Rwandan army chief of
staff Faustin Kayumba Nyamwasa, an exiled opponent of Rwandan
president Paul Kagame.
